Football Season is around the Corner.
College Football kicks off tomorrow(8/30) and NFL starts in a week(9/5). I, as a new fan of the game, am quite excited to watch the big games and follow the upcoming players who will make it in the big leagues.
When I was going to high school in NJ Football wasn’t the biggest sports… maybe because I played soccer and ran track and thought football was stupid. However, as soon as I moved to Texas, football was the sports everyone played and only the football players were the cool kids.
The High School Football stars who get scholarships to play NCAA Div 1 football who will get drafted to the NFL. And Maybe… maybe somedays I’ll have that high school kid on my fantasy team lol.
Anyhow, HS Football is a really big deal in Texas and especially in small towns where all they is football- born and raised- watching their older brothers playing the game- and wanting to be like them. TV shows like “friday night lights” clearly shows how much of energy people put into the sports and to each athletes who makes big plays for the team.
I am thinking about visiting high schools and their football program to work with the kids and maybe document their games, practices and perhaps their daily lives. Think it can be a great series… Just an idea I have. I talked to a coach of Princeton High School today and he was very cool with the idea. I will have to contact the school and the parents to get the permission for the access to the property and for the rights of their portraits.
Still brainstorming - but haven’t had any fun and exciting possible projects in awhile- could be fun!

Being adopted I always knew that I was given a different name at birth, Karen King. Karen would have suited me, but Linda has been fine.
Though I’m not married, being an Artist, I was always relieved that women artists were not expected to take their husbands name.

I have found joy in being a wife and mother in small town America. I am happiest when my husband and seven children and their families are gathered here at our small motel in Cokeville, Wyoming. Then I have peace. Family is everything

I’ve been collecting different images to create few different sets and try to mix and match the images to make them fit into each other.
One thing I love seeing while I’m driving or walking around the town is people showing their love for their country. I mean by showing the love is by hanging a flag by their house. Not just hanging a flag on a flag pole, but hanging them flat on their wall and represent it as one of an Art piece.
I don’t know why, but it just fascinates me… maybe because I grew up hanging flags at my house… I may just have a soft spot for flags and relate it to what I love somehow… For me, flag also represents beliefs… and that is something beyond one can explain in words. It’s something powerful yet quite beautiful…
So yeap, I am collecting photographs of houses with flags hanging in front. Any flags, it could be an American flag, a Korean flag, a Kenyan, a Brazilian flag or even a southern confederate flag. Maybe, I can meet the owners of the house and hear their stories as well… but I don’t know if I’m ready to knock on strangers doors again… We’ll see
